Siobhan Duffy - My Journey
My path into education was anything but ordinary.
I was the child who struggled with Maths. For years, I carried a quiet chip on my shoulder, believing the narrative that Maths “just wasn’t for me.”
In 2000, at the age of 28, and just after becoming a mom, I discovered that everyone had been wrong about me, including myself...
I COULD DO MATHS!!
It wasn't me that was the problem, it was the way in which we were taught!
That revelation came as I stepped into a Kumon Maths learning centre — and unknowingly into my calling.
I have proudly served as a Foundation Phase teacher within the Western Cape Education Department, where Grade 3 has always been my home and my heart.
Those years in the classroom shaped my teaching philosophy, deepened my resilience, and gave me first-hand insight into the joys and challenges of guiding young learners in diverse, high-energy environments..
